Blue Skies Pet Care has provided trusted professional pet care as a locally owned small business in the Newton area since 2010. We are hiring compassionate, responsible team members for dog walking, pet sitting, and other in-home pet care services, as well as team leads for additional hands-on and office support.

Currently hiring the three three primary positions listed below. If your availability does not match any of the positions below, please feel free to apply and we will reach out if we have a compatible position open within about 12 months.

Part to Full-time Weekday Pet Caregiver

Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM–3:00 PM

We need a caregiver who is consistently available throughout our weekday morning and early-afternoon service window.

Visit times and work volume vary based on client needs.

This is currently a caregiver-only role and is not intended as a direct path into a Team Lead position.

Full-Time Team Lead Track: Evenings and Saturdays

Typically includes:

Tuesday–Saturday, approximately 2:00 or 3:00–10:00 PM
Occasional supplemental or on-call hours

Full-Time Team Lead Track: Weekends and Mondays

Typically includes:

Saturday, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM
Sunday 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, 3:00–10:00 PM, or both
Monday 6:00 AM–3:00 optional, 3:00–10:00 PM required
Occasional supplemental or on-call hours

How the Team Lead Track Works

We do not typically hire directly into Team Lead positions.

Candidates begin as Pet Caregivers while completing paid training and learning our service area, systems, care standards, and communication expectations.

Caregivers who demonstrate excellent reliability, judgment, organization, communication, and pet care skills during their first 90 days may have a quick, clearly defined path into a Team Lead role.

Eligible full-time Team Lead positions may include consistent hours, leadership responsibilities, health benefits, and paid time off

The Realities of Professional Pet Care

This job is rewarding, but it is not simply spending time with cute animals.

We:

Work in Kansas heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow
Drive between client homes
Work during weekends, holidays, summers, and school breaks
May have gaps between visits
Care for pets who may be messy, nervous, loud, strong, or unpredictable
Work independently without direct supervision
Adapt to schedule changes and unexpected situations

Pets rely on us for meals, medications, exercise, potty breaks, comfort, and safety. Reliability is essential.

Seasonal Scheduling

Pet care is busiest during summers, holidays, and school breaks. January and February are usually our slowest months.

Pet caregivers should be comfortable with seasonal changes in work volume.

Additional paid projects may sometimes be available for pet caregivers and are always available for full-time team leads to maintain hours.

Availability Expectations

Applicants must generally be available for at least four shifts per week. Those interested in full-time team lead track must be available for at five shifts per week.

Preference may be given to applicants with flexible availability during:

Spring Break
May through September
Weekends
Major holidays

The ability to work during some summer and holiday periods is essential.

Requirements

Applicants must:

Be at least 18 years old
Live in Harvey County, preferably Newton, North Newton, or Hesston
Have a valid driver’s license
Have a reliable, insured vehicle
Have a smartphone with dependable data service
Be comfortable with pets of different sizes and breeds
Be punctual, organized, trustworthy, and professional
Work independently and make sound decisions
Meet the physical demands of walking, bending, lifting, and working around noise and odors
Be willing to make a minimum 12-month commitment

Compensation and Benefits

Pet Caregivers typically earn $12 - $14 per hour before tips and typically $13 - $16 with tips, depending on schedule density, caregiver efficiency, and client tipping. Team Leads earn $12.50 - $15 before tips and typically $15 - $17 with tips, although earnings may be higher depending on schedule and client tipping. Tips are not guaranteed.
